The Duomo

The Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore (English: Basilica of Saint Mary of the Flower) is the main church of Florence, Italy. The Duomo, as it is ordinarily called, was begun in 1296 in the Gothic style to the design of Arnolfo di Cambio and completed structurally in 1436 with the dome engineered by Filippo Brunelleschi. The exterior of the basilica is faced with polychrome marble panels in various shades of green and pink bordered by white and has an elaborate 19th century Gothic Revival façade by Emilio De Fabris.

Castel Sant' Angelo

The Mausoleum of Hadrian, usually known as the Castel Sant'Angelo, is a towering cylindrical building in Rome, Italy. It was initially commissioned by the Roman Emperor Hadrian as a mausoleum for himself and his family. The building was later used by the popes as a fortress and castle, and is now a museum. The Castel  Sant' Angelo appeared in Dan Brown's 2000 novel Angel & Demons.

The Colosseum

The Colosseum is located in Rome, Italy and is one of the new seven wonders of the world.    It is the largest amphitheatre in Rome and is a monument to the Roman Empire.

I wish to visit there one day!

Palinuro

 A very colourful and shiny card from Palinuro in Italy.   The postcard shows the landscapes of the Calais coast in Palinuro.  Palinuro is a small italian fishing village in the province of Salerno.

Milano

This is a view of Milan In Italy.  It is from Luca who says that he has never sent a postcard as far away as St. Lucia and he was a bit worried that it wouldn't arrive.  Well Luca I'm glad to tell you that I received it and thanks very much!

Sforzesco Castle

 Sforzesco is a castle in Milan that used to be the seat and residence of the Duchy of Milan and one of the biggest citadels in Europe and now houses several of the city's museums and art collections.

Chiara from Italy sent me three postcards and this is the first. She says that it is a small village called Pitigliomo a small village in Tuscany in Grosseto province.   The small historical centre is called the little Jerusalem.

These old houses are called "Trulli" and are still inhabited from since the 16th century and are a Unesco site.
