St. Stepanous Church

This card shows St. Stepanous Church in Jolfa , Iran.  It is a Unesco World Heritage Site.  The church was built  in a mixed style of Urarturian, parthian, Greek and Roman architecture in 11 -12 AD.  Its name derives from Holy Stepanous, the first Christian martyr.

Albufeira,Portugal

This card is from Francisco and it shows an old part of the town of Albufeira.  Francisco writes that Albufeira began as a a small fishing village and now it is a touristic destination.

St. Kevin's Church, Glendalough

Another postcard from Brian from Ireland.  This one shows St. Kevin's Church in Glendalough which means the valley of two lakes.  St. Kevin's was established as a monastery in the 6th century which grew into one of Europe's foremost centers of learning.  It is notable for for its high- pitched stone roof.  The round tower, was common to most Irish early Christian sites.

The Tall Cross  is a Celtic cross built around the 9th century.  At almost 7 meters high it is the tallest Celtic cross in Ireland.

Capriana Monastery

My first postcard from Moldova.  Alla says that Moldova is very beautiful and has lots of old monasteries.  The one showed in the postcard is Capriana Monastery founded in 1429.

Czech Republic

This is the first of five postcards received from the Czech Republic.  They were sent by Roman and his family and came in an envelope as well as a fifty dollar Czech banknote and some coins.  Roman and his family also swaps currencies.

Roman writes that this is a wooden church built in 1563 which is situated in his home town.  This church as changed denominations several times from Roman Catholic to Lutheran Protestant and back.  It is still being used and that's where Roman and his wife got married in 1995.
