Fox Glacier

Fox Glacier is located in Westland National Park.  The Glacier was named after the Prime Minister of New Zealand in 1862 William Fox.

It reminds of the mountains in the scene of the Lord of the Rings tt when Sauramon was chanting so that the mountain could fall on Gandalf and the others.  Maybe it was the very same one.

Nugget Point Lighthouse

The lighhthouse was uilt in 1870 and fueled by oil.  In 1949 the oil lamp was replaced with electricity.  What a remarkable view. I still can't figure out who sent me this postcard.

I recently received four blank  postcards from New Zealand in the mail and I have asolutely no idea who sent them as there was no return address.  Anyway the cards are all beautiful and this is one of them which shows the native birds of the island namely the tui, bellird, wood pigeon, kea, kiwi and the red crown parakeet.

Whoever sent me those cards.  Thanks very much!

Heaphy Track, Karamea

The second postcard from Kirsten. Kia Ora means hello in the Maori language.  The Maori are the indigenous people of New Zealand.

Thanks very much Kirsten for both postcards.  Hope you and everyone in New Zealand are doing okay after the terrible earthquake.

Oh did I mention that she also sent me some stickers of the Kiwi the national bird of New Zealand.

Avon River, Christchurch

Finally received two postcards from New Zealand compliments of Kirsten.  This first one shows the banks of the Avon River with poplar trees on either side.
